HIP TO GABLE CONVERSION

WHAT IS A HIP TO GABLE

LOFT CONVERSION?

A hip-to-gable loft conversion involves extending a roof with a sloping side to create vertical walls and a new gable end.

This significantly increases the available loft space and can often accommodate a new stairwell. It's important to note that this conversion type is unsuitable for mid-terraced homes, as they typically do not have the necessary hip-end roof structure.

WILL I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?

This type of conversion falls under permitted development rights, so you may not need planning permission if certain criteria are met, if The property must be a detached or semi-detached house, not a flat or maisonette, The conversion should not exceed the highest part of the existing roof It also must not extend beyond the plane of the existing roof slope of the main front of the house facing the road. The conversion should not include adding a veranda, balcony, or raised platform.

It's essential to check with your local council or us to confirm that a hip to gable loft conversion is permitted under permitted development rights. Some areas may have additional restrictions or conditions to consider.

DORMER CONVERSION

Dormer loft conversions are one of the most cost-effective ways of expanding your property using existing roof space. They can be installed to any side of your house, extending outwards from your roof to create an additional liveable area.

In most cases, dormer lofts do not require planning permission. However, there may be certain circumstances where you’ll require one for your conversion. The Super Lofts team is on hand to guide you through the planning and regulatory process.

VELUX ROOF CONVERSION

WHAT IS A VELUX

ROOF CONVERSION?

A Velux conversion, also known as a roof light loft conversion, is the most non-intrusive, cost-effective, and easiest way to create additional space.

Velux conversions work best when there is ample height between the loft floor and the existing ridge. Compared to other conversion types, Velux loft conversions require much less building work and are therefore not as disruptive.

WILL I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION?

If your property has permitted development rights, you can build a Velux conversion under a Certificate of Lawfulness. This means that, as long as you adhere to the council’s guidelines, you do not need to wait for the application to be approved before commencing work. If you do not have permitted development rights, you will need to obtain planning permission.

With planning permission, you cannot start work until it has been granted. Once a planning application is validated with the council, a decision should be issued after eight weeks. Here at Granite Construction, we will determine exactly which permission is needed and will submit the relevant applications on your behalf to obtain the necessary approval..
